PORTFOLIO BUILDING - REFLECTIVE / CRITICAL THINKING SURVEY - CARE OF THE PERSON WITH DEMENTIA - DIGNITY AND RESPECT/COMMUNICATION

The Department of Health (DH,2010d) defines respect and dignity thus:

Respect : regard for the feelings and rights of others

Dignity : quality of being worthy of respect

Now please read the following scenario.

You are working on a unit where there are a number of people with a diagnosis of dementia.  It is lunchtime and you notice one of the ladies, Betty, is trying to eat her soup with a fork.  Betty is managing to get very little of the soup into her mouth and most of it is pouring down her chin , over the table and down her clothes.

Now please press the respond button to answer a couple of reflective questions related to this scenario. Your response will automatically feed into your VX e-portfolio of learning, to enable you to evidence reflective and critical thinking related to this scenario subject.
