Research by  London South Bank University and Edinburgh Napier University found that 25.1% of nurses were obese, with a Body Mass Index (BMI) score of more than 30, compared with rates of 23.5% in the general population.

Standard 20.9 of the NMC Code (2015) states that nurses should maintain the level of health needed to carry out a professional role.

It is known that patients find it hard to get advise and listen to healthcare professionals whose weight was not healthy.
